Turmeric and curcumin supplements:
Highest concentration of curcumin is found in rhizomes of the turmeric plant. These are nothing but underground or subterranean stems of the plant. Even though rhizomes usually grow under the ground, they are not same as roots. Unlike roots these grow horizontally. This causes the plant to spread all over the available area. New plant growth is produced by shoots which emerge from these rhizomes.
These rhizomes are in yellow or striking orange color. Pigmentation of the rhizomes are caused by curcumin. Most of the medical properties exhibited by these rhizomes are due to the presence of curcumin in it.
Bisdemethoxycurcumin and demethoxycurcumin are the two bioactive molecules which are produced when curcumin undergoes metabolism. These compounds also come with many clinical benefits. Curcumin and these two compounds together called cucuminoids.
